The development of the project within an existing urban setting adjacent
to several adjoining neighborhoods presented unique opportunities
during the site design.
Perhaps the greatest challenge in the development of the
project related to the necessity to provide stormwater detention
facilities within a congested and compact area.
In order to meet the challenging parameters of the project, a unique
underground detention system that had never been used in this region
was presented and subsequently
approved for use by the municipality.
The selected stormwater detention system incorporates the
installation of nearly 3,800 lineal feet of 60” diameter storm sewer
piping laid within an area measuring 100 feet by 320 feet.
The underground storm sewer system provides 2.3 acre-feet of
stormwater volume that ultimately provides stormwater detention for
the 13.8 acre developed site.
Unlike most underground stormwater detention systems, the selected
system eliminates the traditional backfill between the piping
allowing the overall footprint of the system to be significantly
reduced providing an efficient and practical solution to this common
problem.
