The county jail, located in Lafayette,
was in need of an expansion to provide additional capacity with an
addition of 208 beds and 43 new booking cells. The unusually large
size of the new booking area and need for large amounts of exhaust
required a solution that would minimize the costs associated with
treating large amounts of outside air. In order to achieve this, a
unique air handler design that uses an enthalpy heat reclaim wheel
was used for this area. The air handler design consists of a single
packaged system that utilizes variable speed fans to maintain a high
level of control of the space temperatures while minimizing energy
consumption.
